During the summer he was highly sought after by many Italian and European teams, but Parma sees him as one of the team's crucial defence players, and that he has stayed with the sides confirms their ambition to win both at Italian and European level.
From the point of view of physical fitness and tactical skill he is an
almost perfect player. He joined Parma four years ago from French side Monaco. While at
Parma, he has always been one of the best players with regard to sustained achievement and
he is tipped to be the next captain. 
In 1998 he was a key member of France's World Cup winning side, his strong defending and goals contributing greatly to the host side's victory.
In his private life he enjoys spending time with his wife Sandra and their son Marcus and listening to Miles Davis, Kassav's zouk, salsa, and of course Bob Marley.
He's very attached to his native
island, Guadeloupe and to the city where he grew, Anse Bertrand.
